Meet the Team

Rev’d Hugh Scriven

E-mail Rev’d Hugh Scriven

Hugh has been at St Germains since 2000. Before that he worked as a vicar in Telford in Shropshire, in Pudsey in West Yorkshire. He studied Theology in Durham and Cambridge (where he had originally gone to train to be an Architect.) He grew up in London, went to school in Essex, and has also worked briefly in Liverpool and East London.

He enjoys walking, drawing and painting, and Italian holidays. Even he admits that he has too many books.

Hugh is passionate about the bible, teaching it and getting other people to get excited about it; and about working out what it means to be a missionary church.

Rev’d Sarah Hayes

E-mail Rev’d Sarah Hayes

Sarah joined the team at St Germain’s in November 2013 following completion of her curacy at St Peter’s in Hall Green. Sarah trained for ordained ministry at St John’s Nottingham and Queen’s College Birmingham. She was born in Kent, met and married Ross in Manchester, lived for a while in Bolton and came to Birmingham in 1993. Sarah and Ross have one daughter who is off exploring the world.

Sarah works as a development consultant, having been a solicitor specialising in charity law for the previous 20+ years and is studying Canon Law at Cardiff University. She has a particular interest in how the internal and external rules and regulations governing faith communities hinder or help them in fulfilling their mission. She believes that ministry for all Christians is a 24/7 activity and is working out what it means to be a priest in her work.

Sarah enjoys gardening, textiles and exploring other places. Her passion is to release church to use its physical, human and spiritual resources to engage fully with the communities which it seeks to serve.
