Who’s Who

Rev’d Sarah Hayes

Associate Vicar

Sarah has recently been appointed as our Associate Vicar, for just a year.  She loves making fabric, messing about with threads and paints, and generally making a mess!  She loves to read, garden, and has just been introduced to Zumba…!

Along with her husband Ross, Sarah loves to cook and spend time with people at St Germain’s.  She’s learning lots from our children and young people, and is looking forward to working with everyone at St Germain’s as we grow.  Before taking up this role as Associate Vicar, Sarah was working in the Law School at Oxford Brookes University, where she was doing some research on the use of church buildings while also being a member of our clergy team.  Before that Sarah worked as a lawyer for 25+ years.

Sarah came to faith as a teenager through a friend at school who dragged her along to a church youth group in Bexleyheath.  Now, she is here and looking forward to encouraging people in the faith which is such a important part of her life.

David Child

Lay Reader

I have been a Christian for 55 years finding in the face of Jesus Christ both forgiveness and faithfulness. My passion is the bible, seeing it explained, helping people to understand it and encouraging them to read it for themselves. It is God’s living word through which we can know and follow Jesus as Saviour, Lord and friend.

I am married to Vivien and have 3 children and 8 grandchildren all spread to three corners of England. Retiring after 40 years of medical practice, beyond ministry at St Germain’s, my interests include supporting the family, almost any sport to do with a ball especially golf, walking in the country and on the fells, reading, jazz and trying to be domesticated.

Ross Hayes

Lay Reader

Compared to some I am a relative “newbee” to St Germain’s having joined it with Sarah about three years ago. I have been a Christian over 50 years and during that time have seen God do great things in my life and in the life of those around me. From youth work in Glasgow, student support in Manchester, mission church work in Bolton and Reader ministry in Birmingham, life with Jesus has never been boring!

A civil engineer by profession, I have worked in the construction and university sectors for my working life, and love to see how faith in Christ can be lived in life outside the church as well as inside. Being a Reader and lay preacher for over 30 years, and until recently a speaker for Tearfund, I have been fortunate to be able to share these experiences with others.

Blessing Jegede

Lay Reader

Blessing was licensed a Reader in Birmingham couple of years ago. She enjoys dancing, singing and reading; she also likes watching the soaps. Blessing was brought up in a devout Christian home. Hence the text in the Bible which says “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it”. Blessing likes meeting new people and going to new places. She likes and appreciates her church family in St. Germain’s. She always feels happy coming to the church to worship and praise. Blessing is a bubbly person. Blessing works as a Residential Education Support Worker prior to this she trained and worked as a Registered Nurse Midwife in Nigeria for over 20 years before moving to England. God is good all the time.
